PMS. a tour de force every month..?

What do most women around the world have in common?

Your period and the problems or challenges tags along every month for a few days before your period.

Where do these problems &

challenges really come from?

What is PMS?
and how does it feel

What is PMS? PMS-Syndrome. Where do the pms-syndrome really come from?

A few years ago when a friend asked me:

"Lena, what is PMS?"

My answer was very long: “Phew, I have no idea. I don`t really know exactly.

I think it has something to do with the period.”

And I think I`m not the only one. Some of the sex education lessons

were a really long time ago haha.

Where do the pms syndromes really come from?

That premenstrual syndrome are physical and mental (physical and mental)

signs* of the body 1- 2 weeks BEFORE period time (after ovulation).

PMS = PreMenstrual Syndrome, Pre  = Before

As the bleeding begins, the signs slowly subside and then disappear.

However, they can also last until the first few days of the period.

So these are not to be confused with the menstrual signs

(often called menstrual cramps/regular pain),
which can occur during menstruation.

  • Tightness/pulling in the breast, sensitive and sore breasts

  • Swelling (firmer/bigger) of the breasts

  • Feeling of tension/pull/pressure in the lower abdomen

  • Headache or migraine

  • Back pain

  • Cramps

  • Water retention (e.g. in feet, hands) resulting in weight gain

  • Altered sleep (e.g. problems falling asleep, much/ little sleep)

  • Digestive problems (e.g. bloating/diarrhea/constipation)

Psychic/mental
signs of PMS

Both lists are far from complete, because there are far more than 150 PMS signs*.

Each symptom can also indicate illness and should be

checked by a doctor if you are unsure!

* I deliberately write about PMS "signs" and not PMS "symptoms/complaints", because every body is different. Everyone's perception of pain is different, and each person decides for themselves when they feel something is hard or bad.
